Having known little to nothing about this production we were a little apprehensive, would it live up to the hype? Is this another typical high school drama that gets forgotten about in years to come. To answer those questions, we now completely understand the love for this show. It’s brilliant. From the much darker plot than your average musical, to the incredible vocals from the fantastic cast. This is a show that’ll leave you humming to the songs for a very long time.

The show introduces us to Veronica Sawyer, a 17-year-old navigating high school life. The plot unfolds as Veronica gets entangled with the notorious school bullies, ‘the Heathers’, in her pursuit of popularity. The appearance of the enigmatic JD at Westerburg High leads Veronica through some intense and dark twists…

It’s often a cliche for reviewers to call something a ‘rollercoaster of emotions’ but for this show there really is no better way of putting it. It’s hilarious, it’s sassy and it really is brilliantly entertaining. It’s a ‘beautiful’ blend of humour, darkness and unforgettable tunes.

As we walked in, we noticed that some members of the audience were wearing bright coloured blazers. Which we later found out they were the colours of the ‘Heathers’. This show definitely has a lot of loyal fans, which is a testament of how great the show is! - This really was a ‘Killer’ production.

A couple of stand-out performances came from Jason Battersby and Ivan Fernandez Gonzalez who play the cheeky ‘Frat boy’ duo Kurt and Ram. Whose comedic timing and dialogue had us crying with laughter throughout the whole show, they truly stole the show in every scene.

Another highlight of the show for us was ‘My Dead Gay Son’, the show is worth going to for this song alone, both the witty lyrics and the unforgettable performances by Alexander Service and Conor McFarlane. The pair were genuinely hilarious.

From the stunning lighting to the ‘beautiful’ choreography, from a technical point of view this show was near perfect, with just a slight couple of microphone malfunctions which were swiftly fixed so it didn’t effect the show much at all.

Don’t go into the show expecting typical high school drama - Although Heathers is an extremely funny show at times, the show also tackles some pretty deep themes such as suicide, depression, murder and rape.

I think anyone who was there last night would agree that one thing that stood out the most were the cast’s incredible vocals, whether it be solos or harmonies, the cast nailed every note flawlessly!

This show is not to be missed!

I think it’s fair to say we’ll definitely be seeing this show again!
